Cinnamon rolls are a classic comfort food. These rolls are delightfully fluffy and have the perfect combination of simple yet delicious flavors. We think they’re best when enjoyed fresh, straight from the oven! Serve them with coffee or tea for an extra relaxing snack.
Cinnamon Rolls Ingredients
Dough
- 3 tbsp margarine
- 2 tsp rapid-rise yeast
- 1 cup unsweetened plain almond milk
- 1 tbsp cane sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2.75 – 3 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
Filling
- 3 tbsp margarine
- 1/4 cup organic cane sugar
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
Baking and Icing
- 2 tbsp margarine
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp unsweetened plain almond milk
Directions
Dough
- Heat the almond milk and margarine in a sauce pan until melted, but not boiling. Remove from stove and let it cool slightly so it is just warm enough to touch.
- Transfer the melted ingredients to a mixing bowl and then add the yeast so it covers the mixture. Let the yeast activate for 10 minutes, and then stir in 1 tbsp of sugar and 1/4 tsp salt.
- Add in the flour slowly while stirring and stop adding flour when it is too thick to stir. The dough should be sticky to the touch. Then transfer it to a floured surface and knead it briefly into a ball.
- Rinse the mixing bowl and then coat the inner surface with olive oil, then place the dough ball in it. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it rise for about an hour. It should be almost double the size.
Filling
- Roll the dough out into a thin rectangle on a floured surface. Brush it with melted margarine and then evenly sprinkle on the 1/4 cup of sugar and 1 tbsp of cinnamon
- Starting at one end, tightly roll up the dough and situate seam side down. Then with a serrated knife or a string of floss, cut the dough into 1.5 – 2 inch sections and position in a well-buttered 8×8-inch square or comparable sized round pan (you should have about 10 rolls as original recipe is written).
- Roll up the dough fairly tightly. Make sure the outer fold of the dough is on the surface of the table, and then use a knife to cut the dough into 2 inch sections. You should have around 10 sections.
- Coat the inside of an square pan (8×8 or 10×10 should do), and place the dough sections in it.
Baking and Icing
- Brush with vegan butter (melted) and cover with plastic wrap. Set on top of the oven to let rise again while you preheat oven to 350 degrees F (176 C).
- Preheat your oven to 350 F (176 C).
- Brush the top of the rolls with melted margarine.
- Bake the rolls for approximately 30 minutes, until they being to turn golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes.
- While cooling, mix 1 cup powdered sugar and 2 tbsp almond milk until it becomes icing, then drizzle on top of the buns.
- Serve while they’re still warm and enjoy!
